Honey Gatherers of the Mind

This post may not seem interesting to you if you are not of the Christian faith; however, I beg to differ. For me, conservatism is a far-fetched concept. I don't agree with it, nor do I think that it is something that should be pushed on America. Yet, Joel Osteen, mega-preacher that he is, impressed me this morning on CBS. He truly hit the nail on the head when he discussed that he was not called to politics and that it is not his job to divide people based on politics. Furthermore, he acknowledges that as a person that is reaching millions of people and spreading a message to them, he has a huge responsibility. How often do we hear a person in that high of a position really admit that?

And since you know that I am, however, a bleeding heart liberal and a very strong democrat...I have to say this: I listened to a disturbing interview with Rick Santorum today and was appalled at some of things that he had to say. Here's the bottom-line: Rick you should take a cue from Joel Osteen and stop dividing America with your comments. Your agenda clearly only supports those in your tax bracket, of your sexual orientation, of your religion, and of your party. You said today something along the lines of (and sorry I am summarizing) that if Mitt Romney cannot get his own PACs on board then how can we expect him to be able to get America to be on board with his ideas. While I can see some merit in that, I feel like you may be the pot calling the kettle black. If you continue to make such bold statements against a portion of society, excluding them from making their own choices (I mean banning birth control....REALLY?) than how can you really expect to win America's overall vote? Just a thought...in all reality though, ignore me, your own logic will be your downfall.

Ahhh, enough ranting for today. Studying to do, and lots of it.

As always, XOXO

Valuable Lesson of the Day:
Sometimes it pays to listen to people that you wouldn't think would say anything pertinent to your life. Thank you to the Osteens for sharing their story and their opinions on politics. It was refreshing to hear from those of faith who don't seem (at least publicly) to have a huge conservative, bigoted stick up their..ahem...

Quote of the Day:

Our treasure lies in the beehive of our knowledge. We are perpetually on the way thither, being by nature winged insects and honey gatherers of the mind.
Friedrich Nietzsche
